I hosted a 400+ person closing celebration for Kathia St. Hilaire: Invisible Empires exhibition at the Clark Art Institute. Kathia St. Hilaire (b. 1995) is an American visual artist of Haitian ancestry, working with painting, printmaking, textile, and collage to comment on postcolonial histories in the Americas and the Caribbean.
Visual Identity & Graphics
Inspired by St. Hilaire’s weaving and printmaking techniques, the event’s identity evoked her layered compositions. Flyers featured tear-off wristbands that created kinetic shadows, encouraging public engagement and adding a tactile storytelling element. The event’s palette, featured on flyers and bottle packaging, sampled St. Hilaire’s David while maintaining alignment with the exhibition’s aesthetic.
Event Concept & Production
[Booked Haitian-American DJs Ashley Venom and DJ Rayvino]
[Partnered with Hot Plate Brewing, #3 Best New Brewery by USA Today, to develop a beer inspired by Kathia St. Hilaire’s practice and Haitian brewing traditions]
[Developed a sold-out menu of Haitian dishes, including Caribbean pork chunks with pikliz, beef and chicken patties, and crispy fried plantains]
[Programmed purple stage lighting and projected St. Hilaire’s David onto Tadao Ando’s Lunder Center]
